Germán Calder

Germán J. Calder, 77 of West Caldwell entered into eternal life on September 17, 2021 in Naples, FL.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation in celebration of Germán's life at the Galante Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Ave. Caldwell on Friday September 24 from 5-9 PM. A Graveside Service will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Caldwell on Saturday September 25 at 10:30 AM. Those attending the services at the cemetery are asked to meet at the Thomas Street entrance at 10:15 AM. Guests are encouraged to dress casually and comfortably, as we are not mourning the loss of Germán; but rejoicing that we were able to know and love him.

Germán was born in Guanica, Puerto Rico, and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He held a B.A., M.A., and M.Ed. in Psychology and Counseling from Columbia University. Germán enjoyed his work as a bilingual guidance counselor in the New York City Public School System. Prior to that, Germán was a proud director of a counseling and job placement center for disadvantaged youth in New York City.

Germán was a voracious reader with an appetite for knowledge. He took every opportunity to travel the world and greet new places. He also liked to prepare delicious meals for his family. Germán loved to sing and dance, and was able to truly live in the moment. He was also a talented guitar player, and longtime yoga practitioner.

Germán is survived by his beloved wife Ginger (nee Chupa) Calder, and also by his first wife, Pam. He was the loving father of Stephen, Lisa, Marc and Alexa; proud grandfather of Dylan, Danielle, Krista and Nicholas, and enthusiastic caretaker of numerous dogs and cats.

Whatever life offered Germán was met with enthusiasm and courage. He was a gentle and loving soul, who will be missed greatly by all that knew him.
