Anita R. Giaimo

(May 20, 1925 - December 27, 2020)

Anita R. Giaimo, 95, a resident of Springfield, NJ, died peacefully at home with her son Dennis by her side.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday December 30, 2020 at St. James Church,

45 S. Springfield Ave., Springfield, N.J.  at 11:00 AM.

There will be a private viewing at Galante Funeral Home in Union on Wednesday at 10AM.

Her final resting place will be at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, NJ.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas V. Giaimo in 2010 and her son Thomas A. Giaimo in 2014.

Anita worked at Saks Fifth Avenue in Short Hills for 39 years.

She was awarded Sales Associate of the Year in 1982 recording over $1million in sales.

Anita had a passion for fashion that she learned through her father Octavio,

and brother Andrew, at Fairmount Clothing in Newark, NJ.

Fairmount Clothing was a designer and manufacturer for famous designers

including Ralph Lauren, Armani, Yves Saint-Laurent, Oscar de la Renta, and many others.

Anita worked in the family business learning the trade of manufacturing exclusive ladies wear that ultimately led to her career at Saks. She enjoyed making recommendations to her clients always based on quality and personal style. Anita took pride in outfitting her family members and especially spoiling her grandchildren. Anyone who knew Anita was sure to notice her keen sense of style as she was always dressed beautifully for any occasion.

Anita, or “Mema” as she was affectionally known, was all about her family.

She leaves behind her loving son Dennis, daughters-in-law Flora,  and Beth; grandchildren Michael (Brittanni), Denise (Kevin), Joseph (Emily), Nicholas, and Thomas and great grandchildren Kennedy and Siena.

Anita was also very close and equally caring to her nieces and nephews Doreen Allen, JoAnn Spagnolo,

Linda Palma, Michael Yampaglia, Patti Giaimo, Michael Giaimo, Joseph Giaimo, and Marilyn Giaimo.

Anita was the shining light of the family. True to her Italian roots,

she loved to cook for her family and always made sure that everyone was well fed.

She cared and spent her personal time to make sure everyone received a gift on their birthday and on Christmas every year.

She especially adored her late mother Josephine,

sisters Rose Yampaglia, Antoinette “Toni” Palma  and brother Andrew DeGregorio.

Anita had a passion for singing and was a member of the St. James Church choir for many years.

She prayed the Rosary each day and loved the Blessed Mother because she said,

“She did many favors for me.” She was also a member of the Springfield Columbiettes.

Unable to drive anymore, mom and her dearest friend Elaine Bahr

would Uber to restaurants like two young teenagers enjoying a night out.
