Virginia Petit

Virginia Ann Petit, of Linden, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 83 on Saturday June 13, 2026. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Petit, and parents James and Marguerite Givens. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Hutson (Johnny) and Shannon (Kevin) Hurley and her beloved grandchildren, Alex, Trent, Aidan, Anna, and Josie. Along with her three siblings, Jean Denney, Demarie Givens, and James Givens. 

Virginia, better known by Ginny, grew up in Linden and lived briefly in San Francisco and New York before returning to NJ to raise her family. Ginny and Stephen owned Steve’s Luncheonette in Union until 1980. She later worked for the phone company, retiring from Verizon after a long career in 2008, to become a full-time nana. 

Ginny loved reading and traveling, volunteering her time at the church and the Visiting Nurse Association, but her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren grow up. There was not an occasion too small that she didn’t want to be part of. Ginny believed it is the small moments that build a life worth remembering. 

There will be a mass on Tuesday, June 30, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bernardsville, NJ at 11am followed by a celebration of life at the home of Mary Clare & Wesley Kubicz at 6 Crestview Drive, Bernardsville. All are welcome.
