Thomas Fasolo

d. March 2, 2019

Thomas J. Fasolo, 91 of Springfield passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2019.

Thomas was born in Franklin, NJ in 1927. When he was 16 years old, Thomas wanted to take part in the War effort any way he could, so he took a job at Picatinny Arsenal in Wharton, making munitions to assist in his country's victory. As soon as he could, Thomas enlisted as a private in the Army Air Corp., proudly serving in Germany, France and Italy from 1946-1947, before being honorably discharged. After returning home, Thomas attended the Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT), graduating in 1958. Thomas then took a job with Mack Trucks; and while there designed a virtually bullet-proof water pump that Mack used in their trucks all the way through the 1980s. Later, he worked for Worthington, developing vacuum pumps and compressors; Fedder's, and finally White-Westinghouse in Edison. After retiring at age 65, Thomas was rehired by White-Westinghouse the next day as an environmental manager. While in this position, Thomas noticed and studied a critical leak, and subsequently saved 280 tons of waste from entering our rivers. Mr. Fasolo received an honorable commendation from Governor Whitman for this work, and he proudly retired 20 years ago. Thomas was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. A lifelong musician, Thomas was a guitarist in a jazz band with his family in the 1940s, playing gigs throughout Sussex County, and the state.

Mr. Fasolo was predeceased by his childhood sweetheart, and beloved wife of 47 years Margaret (nee Zidek) Fasolo. He is survived by his loving children Jean McDonnell and her husband Daniel, Paul Fasolo and his wife Lynn, James Fasolo and Joseph Fasolo and his wife Laura; dear grandchildren Matthew Caputo and his wife Erin, Brian Fasolo, Kathryn Fasolo, Bennett Fasolo and Augusten Fasolo; and great-grandchildren Jax Caputo and Emma Fasolo. He was predeceased by his brother Francis Fasolo, and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are private, in the care of the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union.
