Susan M. Cavallo

Susan M. Cavallo (nee Fortunato) 78, of the Ironbound Section of Newark, NJ, passed
away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 3, 2023,
losing her battle to cancer.

Born in Newark, NJ to the late Michael and Helena (nee
Montagna) Fortunato. Susan is survived by her four sons, Michael and her former
daughter-in-law Jeane Bitetti, Anthony and his wife Dora, Vincent and his wife Izzy and
Christopher and his wife Luci.
She is also survived by her sister and brothers, Anthony (Jo-Jo), Gracie (late Rocco),
Robert, Michael (Marie) and Richard (Mary).
Susan also had seven beautiful grandchildren, Nicholas (Rossella), (Late) Anthony,
Gianna (Victor), Gabriella (fiancé Josh), Kayla, CJ and Joey. As well as three great-
grandchildren, Milania, Aurelia and Gianluca. As well as many loving nieces and
nephews.
Susan worked for many years as a secretary at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, which
later became Ironbound Interparochial Elementary School, then to become St. Lucy
Filippini Academy. She then worked as an administrative assistant at Wilson Elser Law
Firm for several years. Susan then worked at Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of
New Jersey in their cafeteria as a cashier where she retired in 2012.
Susan raised four sons and did a damn good job at it, as they all grew up to become
fine men who were taught to be kind, loving, respectful and caring individuals.
She lit up any room she entered, and she loved her family and friends, especially her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with them even if it
was talking with them on FaceTime. She would do anything for anyone. Susan also had
a special talent for baking, especially her cookies, Italian Knots, Loaf cookies and
Walnut Cup cookies. Although many people tried copying her recipes no one could
make them as best as she could. Those cookies will definitely be missed.

To honor Susan’s memory, relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday, September 8, 2023,  from 4-8 pm at Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union, NJ. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 9:30 AM at St. Michael's Church in Union, NJ. Prayer Service will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Newark.
