Samuel D. Furner, 92, of Springfield, New Jersey, passed away on August 26, 2025.
Samuel worked at Western Electric in Union for a majority of his career before moving to Dun & Bradstreet in Berkeley Heights, where he remained for ten years before retiring in 1995.
Samuel served in the Army and was a proud member of the American Legions, showcasing his dedication to service and his country. He was also a valued member of the Springfield Knights of Columbus, Council number 5560. His involvement in these organizations exemplified his strong values and commitment to community service.
He was known for being quiet, shy, and observant, with an ability to communicate through his expressive eyes and demeanor rather than words alone. A fan of the New York Giants, he enjoyed cheering on his favorite football team. Samuel’s personality brought warmth to those around him, and he cherished his role as a family man, finding joy in the moments spent with his loved ones. He was also an avid reader of the Star Ledger newspaper, every day dedicating time to read the paper front to back.
Samuel’s proudest accomplishments included years of service as an usher at St. James the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Springfield, reflecting his steadfast faith and dedication to his parish community.
Samuel is survived by his sons; William and his wife Maria, and Joseph and his wife Patty, as well as his daughter Maria and her husband Harry. Samuel was a beloved grandfather to Brittney and Amber and a cherished great-grandfather to Kaylee, Zabdiel, and Leilani.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret, his brothers Paul and Joe, and his sisters Mary and Susie.
A visitation for Samuel will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Galante Funeral Home, located at 2800 Morris Ave., Union. A funeral mass will take place the following day, Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. James the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 45 S Springfield Ave, Springfield.
Samuel D. Furner will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and his legacy will be carried on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
