Rosa LaTorre

Rosa LaTorre (nee Valente), 96 of Newark passed away at home on August 30, 2025.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Rosa at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Wednesday September 3 from 3-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newark on Thursday at 9:30 AM. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Born in Argentina, Rosa settled in the Ironbound Section of Newark in 1951. She worked as a fur cutter, making Stetson hats for United Fur Cutters in Newark for 38 years before becoming the head cook at Café Espresso Italia in Newark for the past 20 years. Rosa was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She took great joy in cooking, and always made sure you left full of food and love. Rosa was also a dedicated member of the Mount Carmel Holy Rosary Society and of the Maria SS. della Misericordia.

The devoted daughter of the late Domenica and Nicholas Valente, Rosa was the beloved wife of the late Michael LaTorre. She was the loving mother of Joseph LaTorre and his wife Sue, Maryann Cocchia and her husband James and Donna Romano and her husband Dominick. She was the proud grandmother of Donna, Tina, Jessica, Michael and Felicia; and adoring great-grandmother of eight. Rosa was predeceased by her brother Giuseppe Valente and by her sister Lidia Giovinazzo.
