Matthew J. Malinowski, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024 at Overlook Medical Center with family members by his side. He was born in Elizabeth on Aug. 14, 1941 and raised in Linden. He later built his life in Westfield before moving to Union, New Jersey with his loving wife, Barbara (Twaskas) Malinowski.

 

Matt attended both the Pingry School and Stevens Institute of Technology. Prior to retirement, he was the owner and president of the Northern Company in Linden. He also worked at both Stratton Electric in Union and Machinery Services Corp. in Paterson during his career. 

 

A lover of nature, being outdoors and sports, Matt left a legacy in Westfield, having started the town’s first recreational lacrosse program.


A true family man, some of his most treasured times included those spent with his family. Whether skiing, fishing or boating - or simply playing a good game of cards with friends - Matt valued relationships with those close to him. In particular, his bond with his wife “Barb” was evident, from weekend road trips around the state to their affection toward one another.

 

Matt is predeceased by his parents, Matthew and Elizabeth Malinowski and his sister, Elizabeth Hansen. He is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter Allison Antonelli and her husband Michael; son Christopher Malinowski and his wife, Andrea;  grandchildren: Anthony and Michael Antonelli; Madeline Keyand her husband Douglas; Elizabeth, Grace, Matthew and Isaiah Malinowski and two great-grandchildren, Kalina and Zayne Keys. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
