Matilda "Betty" DePalma

BEACHWOOD – Matilda “Betty” DePalma passed away peacefully on Monday, August 24, 2026. She was 89.

Born in Newark, NJ she lived to Belleville until the age of 12. For the next 45 years, she resided in Bloomfield before settling in Beachwood in 1994.

Betty was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed cooking and baking with her family. Her husband, Victor, would always ask her to “pass me another bread ball.”

A world traveler, she had fond memories of her time in Italy and Hawaii. Together with their American and Canadian friends, Betty and Victor were proud members of FMCA #20096 and travelled across the country in their RV. Betty enjoyed arts and crafts and loved expressing her artistic side through painting. A big fan of General Hospital, she was a true devotee of the series from the start until the day she passed.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Victor; her siblings, Steve and Josephine; and her parents, Elizabeth and Anthony. Surviving are her children: Anthony DePalma and his wife Rita, Vito DePalma and his wife Lisa, and Donna Ruggiero and her husband Frank; nine grandchildren: Andrea DePalma and her partner Keith, Maria Ombres and her husband Joe, Frank Ruggiero and his wife Kelly, Nicole Mayo and her husband Sean, Danielle DePalma and her partner Matthew, Theresa Waldron and her husband Tucker, Lucia Osborne and her husband Bill, Vito DePalma and his wife Melissa, and David DePalma; 12 great-grandchildren: McKayla, Miley, Gianna, Camilla, Rocco, Khloe, Everett, Emme, River, Tanner, Matilda, Reagan, and one on the way; a dear niece and nephew, Kathy Cullary and Frank Fusaro and his wife Pat; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends and extended family members.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026 from 2-6PM at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Boulevard, Bayville, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026 at 11am at St. Barnabas RC Church, 33 Woodland Road, Bayville, NJ. Cremation will be private.

Betty’s ashes will be laid to rest at a later date at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery with her husband.

 Arrangements are in the care of the Galante Funeral Home.
