A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Church in Totowa on Friday at 10 AM. Those attending mass are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa.
Born in Paterson to parents William J. Fitzpatrick and Mary Veronica Matthews, Clare lived in Clifton before becoming a Totowa resident for over 55 years. She met the love of her life, James T. Sullivan while working at Curtiss-Wright in Fairfield. Clare and James married in Japan in 1958.
Clare spent many years working as a secretary for the North Jersey Development Center in Totowa. She loved to volunteer at the Wayne Public Library, and was part of "Friends of the Library" for 17 years. She was also a devoted parishioner and choir member of St. James Church and Holy Angels Church for many years.
Clare was a world traveler, but most treasured time spent at the Jersey Shore with her family. She was a talented singer, and enjoyed evenings spent at Lincoln Center, attending the opera or a ballet. Clare had a quick wit, and a wonderful sense of humor. Above all, Clare cherished time spent with her family, and was an amazing mother and grandmother.
Clare was predeceased by her beloved husband James T. Sullivan. She was the loving mother of Brian Sullivan, and Mark J. Sullivan and his wife Efrosine "Rose". She was the dear grandmother of Jennifer McBride and her husband Peter and James Stephanos Sullivan; and the adoring great-grandmother of Forrest and Willow McBride. Clare is also survived by her nieces and nephews Chris and Susan, Steven and Kristina Thompson, Michael, Bill, Trish Fitzpatrick, and Michael and Kandi Higgins, her God-Daughter Monica Anderson, her God-Son Brian Fitzpatrick, cousins Marilyn and Joe Green, her sister-in-law Eileen Fitzpatrick, and by her best friends Mrs. Helen Cherba and Mrs. Muriel Braunstein. She was predeceased by her brother William Fitzpatrick and by her sister Regina Fitzpatrick.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Passaic County Adult Day Care, 930 Riverview Dr. Suite 200, Totowa, NJ 07512.
