Obituary - Marilyn E. Thomas
Marilyn Evangeline Thomas, 71, of Union, NJ, transitioned to the comfort of the loving arms of our Lord on the morning of February 11, 2021.
Marilyn was born in Jersey City, NJ on October 26, 1949. The first black graduate of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Elementary School, in Jersey City, NJ, Marilyn
attended Dominion High School in Ohio, and later practiced as an LPN at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Marilyn shared her warmth and generosity with all who crossed her path, the luckiest of whom were a guest in her kitchen. Her recipe for tuna macaroni salad once graced the pages of the Jersey Journal, and whether she was frying turkeys, making homemade soup, gumbo, peach cobbler, or 7-up cake; everyone around her knew that they could count on Marilyn to remind you how “comfort food” got its name.
Marilyn’s beloved memory is proudly carried forth by her loving family, and all those who bestowed her with the title “Nana”. Marilyn is survived by sisters LaVonne and Laura, children Renee, Jason, Carl, and Lorenzo, loving partner William Brown, Jr., thirteen loving grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, her Antioch Baptist Church Family, and her extended family and friends with whom she made treasured memories over the years.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her mother, Trellie Mae Scrutchins-Peeples, father, Henry Pack, and brother, Kevin Pack.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to join Marilyn’s Homegoing Celebration on Friday, February 26, 2021. Visitation will be held from 10:00am-11:30am at Galante Funeral Home in Union, NJ, immediately followed by the funeral service at 11:30am at Galante Funeral Home in Union, NJ. Marilyn Thomas will be eulogized by Pastor Milton Hobbs of Antioch Baptist Church in Springfield, NJ. A livestream of the funeral services will be available for those who wish to attend virtually, using Zoom Meeting ID:

, Password: 2800. The Internment will commence at Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth, NJ, immediately following the funeral service. Funeral arrangements are being facilitated by Galante Funeral Home in Union, NJ.
