Though shaken and deeply moved by the somber passing of my grandmother, God has entrusted me with the task of sharing this account of her life.
Marie Véronique Ripert Louis entered the world on September 1,1930, in Port‑au‑Prince, Haiti. After years of convalescence due to chronic and acute health issues, and weakened by frailties of aging, Mom—Grandma—gave up her spirit on December 20, 2025. She was the first daughter of Christian Ripert and Eumelie Calixte. Educated at the Catholic School of the Daughters of Mary in Bel‑Air, Véronique’s early years were shaped by faith, discipline, and devotion—virtues that would become the foundation of her character.
She later pursued studies in sewing under “Madame Archer.” Her nimble, artistic hands quickly revealed that she was divinely gifted in the art of dressmaking. She became an exceptional seamstress. Through her skill and talent, with needle and thread, every stitch bore witness to her patience, mastery, and humility. Véronique touched the lives of many young men and women, encouraging them to pursue careers in sewing and fashion.
At the age of 26, she entered into the sacred bond of marriage with her late husband, Joseph Gabriel Louis. Their passionate love brought forth seven children. Together, they built a home rooted in dignity and unwavering faith. Véronique embodied both gentleness and strength as she raised her children. She immigrated to the United States on January 6, 1986, and had lived in New Jersey ever since leaving her homeland of Haiti. She worked in the garment industry as a seamstress in Edison, NJ.
Véronique—affectionately known as Veve—was a devoted and faithful wife, a loving mother, and a deeply committed grandmother. Our mother and grandmother sacrificed all personal ambitions for the well‑being of her children. She possessed a quiet intelligence and a visionary spirit. Her greatest mission was to ensure that her children grew into responsible, compassionate, productive, and honorable members of society. She believed in vocation, discipline, and the power of education and moral values to shape a meaningful life.
Our mother, our grandmother, was a woman of unwavering strength, guided throughout her life by firm moral principles and profound Christian faith. She leaves behind a legacy of faith—a legacy that will continue to shine through her children, grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, great‑great‑grandchildren, and all who crossed her path. Though she has left this earthly home, her soul now rests in the eternal peace promised by the Lord she served so faithfully.
The passing of Marie Véronique Louis is deeply mourned. May her memory be a blessing, her life an example, and her spirit a guiding light for generations to come.
This dark moment is deeply shared. May we all find comfort in our Savior Jesus Christ.
