Maria E. Sanchez (née Domingues), passed away on August 4, 2025 at the age of 75 surrounded by her family in Delray Beach, Florida.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Maria on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 4–8 PM at Galante Funeral Home in Union, 2800 Morris Ave. New Jersey. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 12, at 10 AM at St. James Church in Springfield, New Jersey. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, New Jersey.
Born in Merufe, Portugal, Maria’s family immigrated to the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey, in 1959. In 1965, she began working as a dental assistant for Dr. Karlen, where she spent 10 years and enjoyed every minute of it. She graduated from East Side High School in 1967, and, in 1970, married her beloved husband, Ramon Sanchez. Together, they settled in Hillside, New Jersey and started a family. There, they raised three daughters with love, patience, and unwavering support. After retiring, they split time between Toms River, New Jersey, and Lake Worth, Florida, until making Florida their permanent home in 2017. They made the most of their time there, embracing the sunshine, warm weather, and the palm trees she loved so much.
Maria was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She cared for her parents and husband during their final years with great compassion and strength. She never missed a chance to be present for her grandchildren, proudly cheering on their accomplishments and always offering her unconditional love and support.
A woman with a sunny personality and a warm heart, Maria was known for walking 10,000 steps a day, never missing a round of Wordle, her love of angels and her good morning texts. She found joy in entertaining and cooking for those she loved, traveling, relaxing at the spa, meeting new people and going to the casino. She loved going out to eat, especially on Sundays to the Portuguese American Cultural Society of PBC. She lived life fully and joyfully, finding beauty in both the big adventures and small, everyday moments.
She is survived by her beloved daughters Aimee and son-in-law Franky, Jennifer and son-in-law Victor, Leslie and son-in-law Pete, her treasured grandchildren Alex, Cristian, Allegra, Evan, Isabella Maria, Victoria and Olivia, her sisters Aurora and Flory and brother-in-law Richard Cook. She was a dear sister-in-law to Rosa and her late husband Daniel Domingues, the late Margarita and Pepe Iglesias, Benjamin Sanchez and his wife Dolores (Veloso), Celest and her husband Joe Quintana, Marisa and her husband Rick Hodgdon, Flora and her late husband Jim Cunha, and Emily, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Maria was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Isaura, her husband Ramon, and their newborn son Raymond.
Maria will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her deep love for her family, and the joy she brought to every room she entered. Many are loved by their families, but Maria was loved by all.
