Maria DeSousa

Maria DeSousa departed this world on July 9, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on October 17, 1938, in the quaint village of Santa Eufemia, Portugal, Maria's journey through life was marked by her unwavering spirit and deep love for family.

She displayed an indomitable strength, carrying with her the memories of her beloved late husband, Albertino DeSousa, a partnership that enriched her life and the lives of those around them. Maria's legacy is one woven through the fabric of her family, which she cherished above all. Survived by her devoted sons – Jose, Armindo, Carlos, and Joaquin DeSousa – she remained a steadfast source of encouragement and guidance throughout their lives.

Her heart brimmed with pride for her grandchildren: Adrian, Alejandro, Andreina, Alberto, Eduardo, Alberduav, Carlís, Nicolle, Joaquin, and Ricardo. Each grandchild illuminated her life in their unique way, filling her home with love and laughter. Furthermore, Maria was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren, whose playful spirits brought her such joy and fulfillment.

Maria’s parents, the late Jose Dasilva and the late Maria DeJesus Nogueira, imbued within her the values of kindness, resilience, and the importance of family. Although they have passed, their love undoubtedly shaped her into the remarkable matriarch she became.

A ceremony to honor her life will unfold at the Galante Funeral Home-Union Location in Union, NJ, where friends and family are invited to gather for visitation on July 15, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The following day, a Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Of Fatima Church in Elizabeth, NJ, commencing at 10:00 AM.

As we remember Maria DeSousa, we are reminded of her enduring spirit and her capacity for love. Her presence will be profoundly missed, yet her legacy will resonate within the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.
