Margarita Amesti

Margarita Amesti (nee Domínguez), 98, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Margarita at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Avenue, Union, on Thursday, August 11, between 5pm and 8pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, Maplewood, on August 12 at 10am.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fernando Amesti, Sr., and her son Fernando Amesti, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Margarita Losada and son-in-law Castor. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Castor, his wife Robbye, Dolores and her husband Anthony, as well as her great-grandchildren, Aaron, Sofia and Penelope, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in Ourense, Spain, the youngest of five sisters, Segunda, Josefa, Emilia and Obdulia. She immigrated to the United States in 1947 and set roots in the Ironbound section of Newark. She was a master seamstress for many years at Park Fashions, working long hours to fulfill the American dream. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always compassionate and lending a helping hand to many in need throughout the years, until her ill health. Her love of children led her to do volunteer work in the children’s floor of St. James’s Hospital. As a devout Catholic, she never missed a day to say the rosary.
