Manuel Alvarez

Manuel Alvarez, 78 of Clark passed away on May 5, 2026.

Funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Friday May 8 at 8:30am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Elizabeth at 10am. Entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Visitation will be held on Thursday May 7 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. 

Born in Galicia, Spain, Manuel immigrated to Newark in 1973. He was a longtime Elizabeth resident before moving to Clark in 1992. Manuel was a dedicated longshoreman for ILA Local #1235 for 35 years prior to his retirement in 2014. 

A hardworking man who was fiercely devoted to his family, Manuel looked forward to trips to Spain each summer to reconnect with his family. He treasured time spent making homemade wine, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Manuel was the beloved husband of Celina; loving father of Manny Alvarez and his wife Mayra and Sandra Martinez and her husband Manuel. He was the dear grandfather of Isabel Martinez, Sebastian Alvarez, Sofia Martinez and Catalina Alvarez. He was also the devoted brother to Adelino Alvarez and his wife Mariluz and the late Auria Alvarez.
