Lucy Quagliato

Lucy Quagliato (nee Maffia) passed away June 10, 2025. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 25th at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Church in Springfield, NJ. Entombment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Kenilworth, NJ.

Lucy was born the third of five children to Italian immigrant parents. She and her siblings, Rose, Anthony, Chiriaco and Michael grew up in Belleville, NJ.

As an adult, Lucy worked as a secretary at the ‘Pru’ in Newark, until she met and married her loving husband, Danny. She then became a devoted ‘stay at home’ mom to her three children, Donald, Carol Ann, and Claire.

Lucy enjoyed cooking, entertaining, reading, and, together with Danny, enjoying many gatherings with extended family and friends, of which there were many. Later in life, she traveled the world with Danny; their favorite places being Switzerland and Italy. Lucy and Danny lived in Union for 65 years before moving to Houston, in 2010. They became Texans! Unfortunately, while living in Texas only a short time, Danny passed away in 2013, after a brief illness. Lucy continued to live in Houston, making many friends along the way, first in Tanglewood Retirement Village, then assisted living, and finally, memory care.

Lucy suffered from dementia in her last years. Special thanks go out from the family to her very special caregivers ‘angels on earth’, Brittany, Maria, Yolanda along with the incredible staff at the Village of the Heights and Horizon Hospice.

Lucy is survived by her son, Donald, daughter Carol Mowaswes, and her husband, Sam, Claire Cucciniello, and her husband, Larry, as well as eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, all of whom she held close in her heart.
