Leonard ‘Len’ J. Romano of Union, NJ, passed away on August 31, 2025.
Born and raised in Jersey City, Len was the son of the late Francis and Rose Romano (nee Besante). Len was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish. He started his career as a teacher at the school. He worked several sales jobs before settling in as the Transportation Coordinator for the Montclair Board of Education where he worked tirelessly for 25 years. Early on, Len devoted his time to the youth of the Country Village and Greenville sections of Jersey City. He was involved in CYO sports coaching the football and baseball teams. He was also a member of the College Little League Board. He was a member of the Newark Traffic Club and the Holy Name Society. Len was also an avid golfer.
Len was predeceased by his wife Carolyn (nee Lazzaro), his sisters Elvira D’Amato, Rosemarie Scott & Anne Teen, his brothers in-law George D’Amato, Donald Tripp, Thomas Biancamano and Joseph Lazzaro, and his grandson Michael. He is survived by his son Francis (wife Deborah) and daughter Caroline Bogner (husband Steven). His cherished grandchildren Francis Jr (Tarah), Anthony, Sophia and Massimo. His great-grandchildren Thomas and Vivian, and his sister Frances Tripp. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Florence Biancamano, Maryann Mindek (John ‘Jack’), and Antionette Bruno (Pasqualino ‘Pat’), by many nieces and nephews, and lastly by his close friends John & Barbara Pacifico, Giacomo & Joan Silvestri, Anthony & Elizabeth Santora and Robert & Patricia McCarthy. The family would also like to thank his caretaker Alona Nolasco and her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Len at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Friday September 5 from 3-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church in Union on Saturday at 10:15 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
