Julia Koochis, 86, was born in Oneida, PA, and passed away on January 30, in Spring Hill, TN, after a brief illness. Julia lived in Port St. Lucie, FL for the last several years, but always called New Jersey ‘home’.
Julia was predeceased by her late husband, Peter Koochis. Together they owned a Deli business for over 15 years in Hillside, NJ. In 1978, Julia, husband and family moved to Mountainside, NJ, where Julia worked for a real estate company until her retirement in 2000. In 2002, Julia and Peter became ‘snowbirds’ when they bought a condo in Port St. Lucie, FL where they spent many winters. Upon her husband’s death in April 2008, Julia spent several winters in NJ until she moved permanently to Port St. Lucie, FL.
Her early years were spent in Oneida, PA and then in NJ where her family moved. As a young girl, her passion was singing, with a voice good enough to obtain auditions in NY with celebrities Skitch Henderson and Arther Godfrey.
During her later years of life while still in Port St. Lucie, FL, she loved reading, puzzles and continued singing.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Cindy Bayer (Pat) and grandchildren, Krista and Stephen Bayer, as well as by her son, Stephen Koochis. Julia is also survived by nieces and nephews living in NJ, FL and NV.
