John Arthur von Suppiny, beloved brother, brother-in-law, Godfather, and uncle, passed away at his home, in Caldwell New Jersey, surrounded by his loving family. John was 77 years old.
Born in Newark, New Jersey on November 12, 1948, he resided in Newark for 23 years before moving to Caldwell, New Jersey with his family in 1972.
John graduated from Barringer High School in 1966 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey in 1970.
John devoted his service to the National Guard for 5 years, dating from 1969 to 1973. A dedicated employee of The United States Social Security Administration for 50 years, John worked with great pride in the Montclair and Clifton, New Jersey offices as a Social Security Administrative Claims Specialist.
John, fluent in Italian, displayed a great love for his Italian background and the Italian culture, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his family and friends. John often vacationed with family in his mother’s hometown of Montescudaio, Italy, located in the Province of Piza, in the Region of Tuscany.
John served as an Italian Translator for the 1994 World Cup held in the USA and was an avid lover of The Italian National Soccer Team.
You could find John in his kitchen, carrying on his mom’s recipes, by making homemade pizza for family, listening to Frank Sinatra or 50’s and 60’s music, watching Yankees baseball, or taking walks in Grover Cleveland Park.
John was predeceased by his loving mother, Iva (Santi) von Suppiny and father, Edmund von Suppiny. He is survived by his brother, Raymond von Suppiny and sister- in-law Evangeline, brother Andre von Suppiny and sister-in-law Maria Grace Perrone, his niece Amy Jessie von Suppiny, and Godson and nephew, Derek Joel von Suppiny.
A visitation for John will be held on Monday, December 8th from 2:00 - 4:00 PM as well as 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Galante Funeral Home located at 54 Roseland Avenue in Caldwell.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, December 9th at 10:30 AM at St. Aloysius Church located at 219 Bloomfield Ave in Caldwell.
Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery at 40 Thomas Street in Caldwell.
