Jasmatty Persaud, 90 of Union passed away on December 30, 2025. Born in West Coast Berbice #11, Guyana, she was one of five siblings with four brothers in a family of farmers. Jasmatty embraced a humble and simple life, reflecting her deeply rooted values of hard work and generosity.
Married at the age of 16 to Narine Persaud, she devoted her life to raising her five children: Vishnu, Leila, Shanta, Sandra, Pam and Annie. Throughout her life, Jasmatty was known for her open and welcoming home, where she often housed and fed family and friends who came to the city for school, expecting nothing in return. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren, whom she helped care for, fostering close bonds that will resonate through generations.
With a career managing a haberdashery and grocery store for many years, Jasmatty exemplified the very essence of dedication and hard work. She lived in Jersey City for 35 years before recently moving to Union, where her presence continued to warm the hearts of those around her. In her free time, she pursued her passion for gardening, particularly enjoying the cultivation of her vegetable garden, which brought her great joy and satisfaction.
Jasmatty is survived by her loving children, Vishnu, Leila, Shanta, Sandra, and Pam, as well as her cherished grandchildren: Sacha, Peter Jr., Kristen, Nelson Jr., Nastasha, Sean, Ashley, Amanda, John, Troy, and Brandon. Additionally, her legacy continues with her great-grandchildren: Iyla, Sebastian, Kamarya, Selah, Zion, Ruben, and Arianna. Jasmatty was preceded in death by her daughter, Annie.
Friends and family are invited to honor Jasmatty's life at the Galante Funeral Home, located at 2800 Morris Ave., Union, NJ, with visitation scheduled for Saturday January 3, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM. The final farewell will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Hillside, NJ, with cremation commencing at 1:15 PM.
Jasmatty Persaud will be remembered for her giving nature, hardworking spirit, and the indelible mark she left on the lives of those she loved. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her family and friends.
