d. April 6, 2023

Union, NJ

James DeMartino, 90 of Union passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services are private, in the care of the Galante Funeral Home in Union.

Born in Newark, James lived in Union since 1964. A veteran of the Korean War, James was a little disappointed that the war was ending right as he arrived, prepared to serve his country. However, his dutiful service was recognized, as he earned the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. A proud longshoreman, James most recently worked as a truck driver for Gross & Hecht prior to his retirement. James was an avid fan of the New York Giants, and cherished days spent out on the golf course. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and listening to Frank Sinatra. James loved to take walks, and his daily four mile walk in the Cranford Park kept him invigorated and active until he could not do it any longer. Above all, he treasured time spent with his loving family.

James was the beloved husband of the late Fannie DeMartino; loving father of Jay DeMartino, Donna Fulco and her husband, the late Mario, Traci DeMartino, Lori Malamut and her husband William and Carla Magee and her husband James; proud grandfather of Anthony Fulco and his wife Nikolina, Daniella Fulco and her husband Ryan O'Grady, William Malamut, Jr., James Magee, Jr., Rick Malamut and his wife Melissa, Brittany Bako and her husband Paul, Vincent Malamut, Nicholas Magee and Michael Malamut; and adoring great-grandfather of Luciano, Mila and Christian. He was predeceased by his sibings Sam, Phil, Christine and Lucy, and is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
