On Saturday, February 5, 2022, an angel gained her wings.  Irene Frazier-Parsons passed away peacefully surrounded by family in her home in Vauxhall, NJ.

Irene was born on November 8, 1928, in Newark, NJ.  “Election Day Baby” as she would always say.  She was the eldest child of Ruby Williams and Samuel Frazier.  Irene was a spirited and loving daughter who cared deeply for her parents.  Irene attended Charlton St. School in Newark, and then on to graduate from South Side High school now known as Shabazz High School in Newark.  After high school, she gained employment at Bamberger’s Department store in Newark.  While employed at Bamberger’s she began correspondence school and eventually received a promotion to administrative assistant to the Vice-President of purchasing in the Newark store.  Irene would go on to work for and eventually retire after 25 years of service to Bamberger’s.

Irene met and married the love of her life Alonzo Parsons Jr.  in 1950.  They moved to their first home on Magnolia St. in Newark, then on to purchase a home in Vauxhall, NJ.  They were inseparable until his untimely death in 1979.  She never remarried. They attended Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark, NJ which she remained a member.

Irene was a lifelong believer of giving back to her community.  She was a girl’s scout troop leader. She was a “candy striper” at Overlook Hospital.  She volunteered with the Rutgers extension.  She was also involved with the Auxiliary VFW.  She was a member of several organizations such as the NAACP, the Red Hatters; but the organization that was close to her heart was the National Council of Negro Women in which she was a Life Member of the organization.  Beginning with the Newark chapter where she left a great mark receiving numerous merit awards, she continued with that same energy moving to the Vauxhall chapter arranging many trip to the “Black Family Reunion” in Washington D.C. where she remained an active member to the present.

A devoted daughter, wife, and mother to her deceased brother James Sr. sons; James and Samuel Frazier.  She is preceded in death by her 8 siblings; and leaves behind her boys, a daughter – in law, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
