George Boutsikaris, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at the age of 104.
George was born on August 3, 1922, in Washington, D.C. At the age of five, he moved with his family to Greece, where he spent his formative years in Siderokastro, Laconia. The love he developed for Greece during those years remained with him throughout his entire life. Greece was always a part of his heart, and he remained deeply connected to his homeland and its traditions.
At the age of 25, George returned to the United States and settled in Newark, New Jersey, where he began building the life that would become his greatest accomplishment—his family. George was the beloved husband of Efrosini, his wife and lifelong companion. Together, they built their home in Union, New Jersey, where they raised their three children, John (KrisAnn), Peter (Alexandra), and Chrystal (Michael). That home remained a place filled with family, love, and memories throughout their lives.
George took pride in his work and in providing for his family. His strong work ethic, quiet strength, and dedication were hallmarks of the life he lived. He was employed by Wiss & Co in Maplewood, NJ, up until his retirement in 1987. Above all, George was a kind man and a true gentleman. He was deeply religious, with a strong and abiding faith that guided him throughout his life. He was a devoted member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Union, New Jersey, and his Greek Orthodox faith remained an important part of who he was.
George found great happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He loved to garden, especially growing vlita and tomatoes, and he enjoyed sitting on his patio feeding the birds. These quiet moments reflected the peaceful, gentle nature of a man who appreciated his home, his family, and the beauty around him.
He was the proud grandfather of Melissa, Christopher, and Nicole, who brought him great joy. His family was the center of his world, and he was deeply devoted to each of them. George was one of eight children. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kiriakos, Aristides, Dinos, and Panayiotis, and his sisters, Panayiota and Eleni. He is survived by his beloved sister, Voula, as well as a large and loving extended family of nieces and nephews.
