Eugene Moretti, passed away on May 1, 2026, at Staten Island University Hospital North. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1953, Eugene touched many lives through his work, passions, and family.
Mr. Moretti’s career was marked by his commitment to excellence in engineering. He held the esteemed position of Assistant Director of Engineering at Colher Hospital, a constituent of Health's Hospital Corporation of New York City. Educationally accomplished, Eugene earned an Associate’s degree from Queen’s College, further enhancing his expertise to attain the status of a master electrician. His technical proficiency was matched by his creative spirit and entrepreneurial drive.
In 1985, Eugene relocated to Staten Island with his wife and young son. Known as a true renaissance man, he personally built his Staten Island residence—a testament to his skills and dedication. Beyond his professional pursuits, Eugene found immense joy and fulfillment in his culinary artistry. As Chief Operating Officer of Mr. Chef of Staten Island, he was renowned for his masterful creations and his company’s memorable slogan, “The truth of the test is in the tasting.” Whether cookies, cakes, or full course meals, his presentations were always crafted with love and left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to experience them. Eugene also cherished the melodies of Doo Wop music, often immersing himself in both listening and singing his favorites.
The community will gather to honor his memory with a visitation at Bedell Pizzo Funeral Home, located at 7447 Amboy Rd, Staten Island, NY 10307. The visitation will take place over two days: May 6th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and May 7th with sessions from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on May 8th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas St. Joseph Church, 6097 Amboy Rd, Staten Island, NY 10309. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Eugene’s family legacy includes his son, Eugene Joseph Moretti Jr. and his wife Jeannette and his granddaughter, Giada Capri Moretti. He is also survived by his brothers Dominick, John, and Peter Moretti. The memory of those who preceded him includes his beloved wife Joan (née DeSetto), his brother Paul Moretti, and his sister Louise Moretti.
Eugene Moretti’s life was one marked by professional distinction, familial devotion, and an enduring zest for life’s many flavors.
