Elza M. DaCosta

Elza M. DaCosta, 87, of Kenilworth, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026.

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Elza immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s, settling in the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey. She worked as a talented seamstress until the birth of her beloved son, when she devoted herself fully to being a homemaker. Her family was the center of her life, and she took great pride in creating a warm, loving home filled with faith, tradition, and delicious Brazilian meals.

Elza had a deep love for her Brazilian heritage. She was an enthusiastic supporter of Fluminense Football Club and enjoyed watching Brazilian soccer whenever she could. She was known for her generous spirit, welcoming heart, and the love she expressed through her cooking. Whether preparing traditional Brazilian dishes for family gatherings or simply spending time with those she loved, Elza's greatest joy came from bringing her family together.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gabriel DaCosta, Sr.

She is survived by her devoted son, Gabriel DaCosta, Jr., and his wife, Sol; her cherished grandson, Nathan; her brothers, Edesio Pereira DaSilva, Eucleir Pereira DaSilva, and Euducler Pereira DaSilva; and her sister, Ana Maria DaSilva. 

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Galante Funeral Home, Union, New Jersey.

Cremation will be held privately.

Elza's legacy of love, generosity, and devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
