Edward D. Wachter

Edward D. Wachter, 68 of Union passed away on August 10, 2026.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Ed at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Thursday August 13 from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Church in Union on Friday at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.

Born in Newark, Ed has been a Union resident for the past 36 years. A machinist by trade, he worked for Standard & Tool, later Pfizer for several years before being employed by Stryker for 30 years prior to his retirement in 2021. 

Ed was an avid fisherman and boater, and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He cherished time spent working around the house, and when he was done would help anyone in the neighborhood that needed advice or just an extra hand. Above all, Ed was a devoted family man, and most treasured time spent with his children and his granddaughter, Gracie.

The son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Wachter, Ed was the beloved husband of nearly 44 years to Claire A. (Montague) Wachter; loving father of Eddie Wachter and Anthony Wachter and his wife Meghan; adoring Pop-Pop of Grace, and one on the way; and dear brother of Teresa Hagen and her husband Kevin.
