DR. ELLIOT J. COUPS

Dr. Elliot J. Coups, a long-time resident of Brooklyn and New Jersey, passed away on July 21, 2020, at the age of 46. Elliot is survived by his husband Yosef, son Ezana, his parents David and Rita, brother Ashley, sister-in-law Alix, and nieces Emily, Louise and Isla.

Elliot was born on August 15, 1973, in, Purley, England, to David Alan Coups and Rita Coups (née Whitfield). Elliot attended Whitgift School, an independent day school for boys, situated in South Croydon. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Exeter (United Kingdom), which included a junior year abroad at the University of Heidelberg (Germany). Since completing his Ph.D. in social/health psychology at Rutgers University in 2003, he has conducted research and taught in academic medical settings. Elliot was a full member of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Associate Professor of Medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Health Education & Behavioral Science at Rutgers School of Public Health. Most recently, he was the Executive Director, Research Operations at Medical Data Analytics in Parsippany, New Jersey.

On December 10, 2016, Elliot married his long-time partner Yosef Seifu and, on November 29, 2017, they had a beautiful boy named Ezana. Elliot was a devoted husband and a loving father who adored his family and friends. Elliot loved traveling around the world with Yosef and discovering new experiences. Together they have visited more than 25 countries. In his spare time, he went hiking, camping, and often took beautiful pictures of natural landscapes.

Elliot was also a seasoned long-distance runner having completed more than 50 marathons and multiple ultra-endurance races. He extended his love of running by leading weekly runs, training sessions and hosting annual races in South Orange, New Jersey with Back on My Feet, an organization that combats homelessness through the power of running, community support, and essential employment and housing resources.

Elliot was an exemplary humanitarian who touched the lives of many people with his kindness, compassion, generosity and his quick wit. He was a kind soul who always tried to help others in any way that he could.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, August 1, at 10:30- 12PM at Galante Funeral Home,

54 Roseland Avenue, Caldwell, NJ 07006.

***Due to COVID-19 safety regulations, no more than 30 people will be permitted into the funeral home during the memorial service.

Face masks are required.***
