Dolores Hernandez, 70 of Newark passed away at home on September 21, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Dolores at the Galante Funeral Home, 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Monday September 25 from 6-8 PM. A Graveside Service will be held at Hollywood Memorial Park on Tuesday at 10:30 AM, with the entombment to follow. Those attending Dolores' graveside service are asked to meet directly at the main office at Hollywood Memorial Park before 10:30 AM.
Born in Belleville, Dolores was a lifelong Ironbound resident. She proudly worked as the Assistant to the Presiding Judge for the City of Newark prior to her retirement in 1990. An avid bowler, Dolores treasured her trips to Atlantic City, and especially enjoyed shopping. She was talented at crocheting, and enjoyed knitting clothing for her family, even if sometimes one leg was a little longer than the other. A feisty woman, Dolores was as tough as they come, but fiercely loved her family, especially time spent with her grandchildren. Her family will always remember her in their home, with a Parliament Light 100, until she ran outside at the first sound of the ice cream truck jingle, looking forward to her vanilla soft serve with chocolate sprinkles.
Dolores was stricken with cancer in 2015, and like the strong Gallega she is, fought her battle so hard. Her grandchildren kept her going for as long as she possibly could. They were her absolute dearest treasure.
Dolores was the beloved wife of Julio E. Hernandez, loving mother of Melizza Hernandez and her husband Maximino Monroy and Tamika Sanabria and her husband Eric, and adoring grandmother of Eric and Enrique Sanabria. She will be dearly missed.
