Bienvenido Sanchez Cavallo

Dr. Bienvenido “Benny” De Los Reyes Sanchez Cavallo.

January 6, 1949-October 6, 2026.

Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and spending his early life in Barahona, Dominican Republic, Benny immigrated to Washington Heights in New York City with his parents Romeo Sanchez and Herminia Sanchez Cavallo and his brothers Romeo and Francisco. After graduating from George Washington High School, he received his Bachelor’s from Cornell University where he participated in the Willard Straight Hall Takeover of 1969.

Benny then returned to the Dominican Republic and obtained his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo. He returned to the United States and completed his medical residency at Englewood Hospital, residing in Englewood and then Tenafly, New Jersey with his family. Benny thereafter opened his own medical practice, Bergenline Medical Associates, where he served the West New York, New Jersey community for more than 30 years.

Benny was well-known for his kind, compassionate and patient nature with his patients. He was a voracious reader with an insatiable appetite for knowledge and learning. He could stay up all night reading and highlighting medical books and journals, or reading history books with an espresso. He also loved to draw and practice calligraphy. He was quick to laugh and smile, especially when he was being silly with his children and grandchildren.

Benny is survived by his devoted wife Nubia, his loving sons, Alberto, Jorge, and Romeo, his grandchildren Alberto Andres, Isabel, and Alexander, and countless extended family and friends whose lives he touched and by whom will always be remembered.

A Visitation for Benny will be held on Friday, October 9th, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Galante Funeral Home located at 2800 Morris Avenue in Union.
