Bernice J. Opatkiewicz

Bernice J. Opatkiewicz, 88 of Union passed away at home on January 18, 2026.

Friends are invited to attend a visitation for Bernice at the Galante Funeral Home (serving the legacy of Parkway-Wozniak Memorial Home), 2800 Morris Ave. Union on Tuesday January 27 from 3-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Church, 146 Irvine Turner Blvd. Newark on Wednesday at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park.

Born in Newark, Bernice moved to Union 40 years ago. She was Vice-President in charge of mortgages for Pulaski Savings Bank in Irvington prior to her retirement. She also was a licensed real estate agent. 

Bernice was a devoted parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, where she served as a longtime trustee and President of the Parish Council. She also volunteered as secretary, and served on many different committees throughout the years.

The loving daughter of the late John P. and Jean (nee Grabowski) Opatkiewicz, Bernice was the dear sister of Carol A. Opatkiewicz, and is also survived by several cousins, and by her favorite cat, Joey.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Stanislaus Church.
