(January 27, 1920 to October 15, 2018)
Roslyn Berman passed away peacefully the morning of October 15, 2018,
at Daughters of Israel in West Orange, New Jersey,
where she had been a resident for the past five years.
Prior to that, lived in Union, New Jersey for over 50 years.
Roslyn was born in New York City, eldest child of Sadie Brody and Nathan Middleberg.
She was pre-deceased by her sister Irna Buscemi and brother Joseph Middleberg.
Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Kendler and Maureen Berman,
son-in-law Robert Kendler,
three grandchildren, Owen and Thea Rozman Kendler, Adam Kendler
and two great-grandchildren, Dava and Micah Kendler.
A long-term sales associate at Stan Sommer’s Women’s Clothing Store in Union Center,
she prided herself on her personal sense of style and her ability to build relationships
with long-term customers who trusted her advice on what to wear to look their best.
Following retirement, Roslyn had time to pursue her many passions.
She was an expert Maj Jongg player and enjoyed teaching the game to novices.
Her many talents also included knitting and baking.
She was an active member of the Senior Center in Union
and enjoyed spending Fridays in the company of her many friends.
Well into her 90’s she enjoyed reading the newspaper on a daily basis
and keeping up with local and national politics.
Closer to home, she took great pleasure in following the many successes her two grandsons
and was thrilled when she became a great grandmother of two wonderful children.
She will be greatly missed by her extended family and circle of friends.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday at Baron Hirsch Cemetery
1126 Richmond Avenue Staten Island, N.Y. 10314 at 11 AM.
Everyone will congregate at the office and follow in procession to her grave site.
Shiva will be observed at the family residence
on Wednesday from 5-8 PM with a Minion at 7PM
And on Thursday from 12 Noon until 8 PM with a Minion at 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to Daughters of Israel Home
